Philosophy

pure chocolate, pure joy

Snacking is one of life’s simple pleasures, which is why we make our chocolate as simple as possible. Using ethically sourced beans and selecting additional ingredients with the greatest care, we preserve the cacao bean’s natural simplicity so it’s never overshadowed or outshined.

Because we love chocolate. And we love chocolate lovers.

As for those who don’t like chocolate…

...we do not speak of them here.

Ethical Sourcing

kindness is sweet

The cacao bean industry is in dire need of restructuring in order to reverse decades of exploitative practices, which is why we source our beans only from direct trade wholesalers who pay their smallholder farmers well over minimum market price.

We believe that snacking guilt-free is possible when you know that your satisfaction is not the result of someone else’s struggle - because nothing, not even chocolate, is worth exploiting labor or land.

The Process

roast - crack - winnow - mill - temper - mold

We hand select beans from South America and Africa, seeking out the boldest, richest flavor profiles we can find. We roast, crack, and winnow the beans by hand with pain-staking (but pleasurable) precision. From there we mill, temper, and mold our bars by hand, so that every bar is fresh, flavorful, and ready for its forever home: your tummy.

And since we have nothing against gilding the lily, we are always looking to entice the more daring chocophiles among you by experimenting with spices, fruits, nuts, and botanicals. Check our marketplace regularly to discover what unique yet perfectly balanced flavor combinations we come up with next!

The CCO

Chief Chocolate Officer

As a boy growing up in India, Z discovered the joy of chocolate when his father brought candy bars home from international trips. When Z moved to the states and discovered that the streets were not, in fact, paved with chocolate, he decided to rectify the situation.

Now crafting his own bean-to-bar chocolate in the heart of Brooklyn, Z's goal is to capture that same sense of joy and comfort he felt as a child when snacking on the perfect bar of chocolate. He has loved every (messy) moment involved in the process of experimenting with flavors, textures, temperatures, and timing, and he hopes that you enjoy the result as much as he does.

Because he can’t eat all of this chocolate by himself.

Actually, he could.

But he’s not going to.
